The course provides a solid foundation for understanding how international cooperation, legal instruments, and regulatory frameworks contribute to the effective and orderly functioning of the global air transport system.

 

Course Description


This self-paced course is part of the Fundamentals of International Aviation Online Training Programme. Delivered in five (5) units, it introduces learners to the evolution and importance of international air law in supporting a safe, secure, and sustainable global aviation system. The course explores the origins of aviation law, the development and significance of the 1944 Chicago Convention, the role of ICAO, and the broader framework of treaties and agreements that structure international civil aviation today.

 

Learning Objectives


Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to:

 

Describe the origins of aviation
Explain why international aviation law became necessary
Describe the general framework of the 1944 Chicago Convention, including its function and key achievements.
Explain the purpose and roles of ICAO in international aviation regulatory practices
Explain how other agreements between and within states create the global air law structure
Describe some key terms associated with international air law

Primary Target Population


Primary target audience: 

Aspiring aviation professionals, individuals transitioning into the aviation sector, Civil Aviation Authorities, airline operators, and other aviation industry stakeholders.

 

Secondary target audience: 

Experienced aviation professionals, including those working with training organizations or as aviation consultants.

 

Certificate


The participant must achieve a score of 80% to pass the final exam. Note that participants are allowed a maximum of three (3) attempts only. Upon successfully completing the exam, the participant will receive ICAO’s e-Certificate.
