Description

This 3-hour online course introduces the fundamentals of Human Performance (HP) and its importance for regulators in the aviation industry, based upon ICAO’s Manual on Human Performance for Regulators (Doc 10151). Covering 11 topics across 4 sections, the course progresses from core concepts to specific approaches, reinforced by real-world case studies from aviation and other sectors. With short, 8–10-minute lessons and discovery activities, participants can explore at their own pace, and they will gain an understanding of ICAO’s principles of HP, and the integration of Human Factors (HF), Human-Centred Design (HCD) and Systems Thinking in the aviation system.

 

Goal

This online course aims to enhance participants’ understanding of key concepts of Human Performance (HP) within regulatory activities.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to:

  • Explain the foundations of Human Performance (HP) in aviation and its relevance for regulators, and the relationship of Human Factors in influencing system and human performance.
  • Identify ICAOs five HP Principles and how they influence human and system performance in regulatory contexts.
  • Provide practical examples of how the application of HP knowledge can improve regulatory activities and outcomes.
  • Outline the Human-Centered Design (HCD) approach and how its process can improve regulatory decision-making.
  • Explain the Systems Thinking Approach and its importance in identifying complex regulatory challenges.
  • Apply HP concepts and principles to analyze the contributing factors and recommendations for several real-world accident case studies from aviation and other industries.

Certificate

The Final Exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. The participant requires a grade of 80% to pass. Note that the participant will be granted 3 attempts only. Upon successfully completing the exam, the participant will receive ICAO’s e-Certificate.
